PET (Biaxially Oriented Polyethylene Terephthalate, BOPET)

PET is a benchmark material in the UV molding of lithographic films, with excellent comprehensive performance and the widest application range. In terms of microstructure replication accuracy, PET exhibits extremely high performance, which can accurately replicate nano-scale gratings, holograms, and other precision microstructures due to its regular molecular arrangement. It has strong dimensional stability, with a very low thermal shrinkage rate (≤0.3% for BOPET) during the molding process, ensuring that the transferred microstructures do not deform after molding.
In terms of UV curing compatibility, PET has good adaptability. After corona treatment, its surface energy can be increased to 52-56mN/m, which significantly improves the wettability and adhesion of UV glue, ensuring firm bonding between the microstructures and the film surface. Additionally, PET has extremely high mechanical strength, with a tensile strength of more than 150MPa, which is 2-3 times that of BOPP, making it suitable for high-speed roll-to-roll production.
However, there are some points to note when using PET. Its glass transition temperature (Tg) is 70-80℃, so the molding temperature should not exceed 100℃ to avoid thermal deformation. Moreover, the surface of PET needs to be corona treated; otherwise, the wettability of UV glue will be poor, affecting the replication effect of microstructures.
